Personal Storytelling: What’s Your Story? at Green Haven Correctional Facility
Facilitated by Christina Thyssen, Caitlin Langstaff
Everybody has a story to tell and uncovering the stories that most uniquely define us can be one of the most rewarding and healing creative outlets. Stories build community and help us make sense of ourselves and the world we live in. In crafting and telling stories of our lived experience, we learn to explore the life experiences that have shaped and defined us, but telling our stories also connects us to others and reveals our shared humanity.
In this workshop students discover the craft of shaping the events of their lives into a compelling story. They are introduced to the principles of storytelling and learn to craft and share their stories. Mining the very richest parts of their personal story, participants learn to tell and ultimately perform their story with authenticity and confidence. The small group environment creates a safe, dynamic space, allowing for group interaction as well as individual guidance and feedback. Each workshop series concludes with a story performance where students tell their stories in front of a live audience.
