Framing Freedom at Groveland Correctional Facility
Facilitated by Ya’qub Shabazz
Framing Freedom is an innovative art education program for system-impacted individuals that encourages creative expression and connection with others. It utilizes elements of art history, color theory, painting and drawing techniques, interpreting fine art, and mindfulness to help participants gain meaningful skills and knowledge. The program offers incarcerated individuals the opportunity to learn how to create art while developing self-awareness and preparing for life after prison. Through art and discussion, participants are able to express emotions, build relationships, and deepen their sense of self.
